Fundamentals of the Program
- The Scholarship Program began in 1997
with only 36 students. It currently supports over 250 children
each year.
- Following the PPMA philosophy, the
scholarships are a hand up, not a hand out. The Program provides
the children an opportunity to become productive members of the
community
- The role of the coordinators is unique.
Each coordinator is responsible for the village where they live
and are familiar with the families and children. In this way, the
neediest families can be helped. It also provides an opportunity
for the coordinators for growth and employment.
- The students must attend their classes on
a regular basis, maintain good grades, study, and perform
community service in order to remain in the program.
- Regular meetings are held between the
coordinators and students. The coordinators are committed to the
success of the students and use the meetings to provide
encouragement. The children have many hardships – sickness,
caring for younger siblings, parental illness or absenteeism, or
the need to work – so the coordinators work with the students to
keep them on track with their education
- None of this would be possible without
our sponsors!
